A studio the size of a table, in Lahore.

Hung Piece is a one-person studio by Sohaima in Lahore, Pakistan. The colours here begin as rocks. Lapis, malachite, ochre, cinnabar. Ground on a slab, mixed with gum arabic and a little honey, laid on cotton rag paper. Nothing is squeezed out of a tube.

The stones come home in a pocket. Basalt, flint, granite, river pebble. They are painted where they sit, so the grain leads the mark rather than the mark hiding the grain. Each one is finished once, signed on the underside, and mounted with a 4mm float so it throws its own shadow.

Every piece is one of a kind and sold once. When it is gone it stays on the wall as a record; there are no editions, no reproductions, and no prints.
